I’m a little rusty, but I’ve begun making my paper cut outs again. Here is my first one since I did the album cover for Herb and Hanson earlier this year. You may or may not be aware that this is a medium I first began to explore in college. You can see those early pieces here. I’m going to continue building a portfolio of landscapes as well as my portraiture series.
Here is the piece before it's assembled and glued. It has six layers of paper.
Here it is all put together. I've also added extra leaves and tiny paper highlights to the tree trunk and branches. The trunk is more brown than red in real life.

Rusty you say, but to me that is awesome. My brain does not wrap around how one does this paper cutting business. LOVE IT!

Aww, thanks, Liz and Julie! I guess the word “rusty” is a bit off… I just had a few challenging moments remembering how to layer for shadows and such. I kinda have to work backwards to forwards within the image and it can be rather puzzling. And Julie, your amazing knitted things also boggle my brain.
I cannot believe how one can create such an intricate design. I know this work takes days not hours to complete. I see it. I love it. I can’t believe it. This is a beautiful work of art! You boggle my brain! Dad
